Abstract
Starved and neglected horses can be encountered in equine practice, and veterinary surgeons have a responsibility to both treat the animal and educate the owners on animal welfare; in some cases, they may also have to deal with the authorities to seize the animal. This article considers clinical conditions affecting neglected horses and how best to manage them.
